The creation of StringZone

What motivated us?

A few years ago, we were faced with the challenge of changing something ourselves due to arm, shoulder and back problems. After seeing many doctors and physiotherapists and still not being able to play tennis without pain, we started looking into tennis equipment. Special insoles for our tennis shoes and new rackets were found quickly and easily thanks to the information on the internet. Unfortunately, neither of these completely solved the problems. The subject of tennis strings was also a challenge for us, even though I have been stringing my own rackets for 40 years.

What was the problem?

The tennis string market is extremely fragmented and there is no central database or smart IT solution to find the optimal string for you. The information is scattered, highly subjective and usually difficult to access or understand. From our point of view, this is a real bottleneck in a sport that inspires millions worldwide.

What is our solution?

What did we do with it? Instead of getting annoyed, we decided to develop the solution that the market so desperately needs. Last year, we launched StringZone – the first platform that enables every tennis player to find the ideal string for their game in seconds. Simple, intelligent and efficient.

What drives us?

The conviction that we solve the problems of many tennis players through a scalable technology platform based on a large, internationally growing market. Tennis is global, and the right equipment can have a significant impact on the game. We create transparency in a fragmented market and offer a data-driven solution with our StringFinder, which has great benefits for players, retailers and manufacturers alike.

What have we achieved so far?

• Methods and database piloted with 30 tennis players in Berlin
• A database with over 432 strings created
• Evaluated and harmonized test results of over 130 strings
• Homepage StingZone, where you can find a lot of information about tennis strings
• Stringfinder, with which you can find your optimal string in just a few seconds.
• Setting up StringZone in LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram

What are we currently working on?

• Permanent expansion of the database
• Involving users in the verification and expansion of the database
• Extension of StringFinder functionalities

What is our biggest challenge?

We are active offline and online and are currently trying to convince tennis players of the importance of the tennis string. Especially in the social media, where we were both less active, the effort is enormous. We are therefore asking all tennis players who we have been able to convince of the importance of the tennis string to recommend us and give us tips on how we can achieve a greater reach. The more we are, the better the StringFinder will be, as it will continue to learn.
